A Night at the Opera

I don’t wear a lot of formal gowns. I’m not sure why that is, it’s not that I dislike them. I guess it’s just that I don’t really have much use for them. I rarely ever go out dancing or anything else that may require a gown. However, when I saw the gown from DCNY at My Attic, I had to have it. A lovely lace up back and the fact that you can turn it in to a short dress as well is what convinced me. It comes in so many gorgeous colors I had trouble choosing just one.

To shoot this picture I found this great looking Opera House at the Costa Rica sims. There’s a lot of photo friendly places on these sims, so I recommend you take some time to explore it if you’re looking for photo locations.

A Disco in My Attic

If you haven’t been to My Attic yet I suggest you get your ass in gear and get on over, like now. Tomorrow it’s gone. I was there the first day I think and picked up this dress, but then. Well, I forgot, again, ok? It’s just one of those thing I do now.

Anywhore, the dress is a glittery little disco number from Elymode. You can also turn it in to a body suit or a jumper, which ever you prefer. It’s partial mesh, which I’m partial to. Hurr. Especially the sleeves are fantastic on this dress. I really do like long sleeves that sort of envelope your hands, gives a nice cozy feeling to the garment. I hope she’ll release some sweaters with sleeves like this.

Someone tossed me a stick

Jullie tossed me a stick and I grabbed it, looked at it and then forgot it. I have a horrible memory, I really do. But now I found it again and so we shall blog it. So what is this stick toss? Well it’s a blog challenge and we all know how I feel about those. The rules are as follows.

1.  Link the person that tossed the stick

2. Answer the questions

3. Toss the stick to 5 different people

4. Tell those people you threw a stick at them

5. Ask 5 new questions

Alright, easy enough. Let’s do it.

1. What do you do on SL? (model , pose, blog, create w/e)

I blog and shop. Then I blog some more. Shop even more. Shop again. Occasionally I actually do model for stuff, random people looking for bodies for vendor ads or whatever. Nothing serious or very prestigious, but tons of fun none the less.

2. How long have you been on SL?

I logged on SL the very first time in late -06. I looked around, tried to change my avatar, failed and logged out. Returned almost a year later, this time with more success. I stayed for 3 years and left again. Then came back again… I know, total flake.

3. Is your current avatar your first one or is it an alt?

Neither. It’s not my first, but right now I have no other avatar than this one, so it is not an “alt” in that regard. This is the avatar I live in now and so it is my main avatar. I left my first behind because of a bad situation and I have not looked back.

4. What store in SL could you spend a fortune in?

The question should be “What store couldn’t I spend a fortune in?” I have a serious shopping addiction. I shop more than I can wear or blog. I frequently forget what I bought, or what I bought it for or even where I bought it. I can go batshit at an event or store and drop a few thousand only to realize I have 2 weeks until I get to buy more lindens. Because I do have a very strict budget, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to contain myself.

Anyway, if I have to choose just one, I’d have to go with Maitreya. Each release they make I have to strike a deal with myself to only get one item. If I don’t,  I will get myself in to a noodle situation for the rest of that month. Everything at Maitreya is just so well made, fantastic textures, superior shapes and just over all great style. I wish I had enough to buy all the things (especiallly the shoes), but I’m just not that fortunate. Restraint is what I bring to Maitreya.

5. What made you join SL?

Like so many others of that time I saw a piece on Second Life on TV. Thought I’d give it a shot. The rest is, as they say (who are they anyway?) history.

Ok, do you feel like you got to know more about me? Great, then let’s toss the stick to 5 new people and get to know them. I toss my stick to:

Marja @ Crazy in Second Life.
Sarah @ Lilac Rose.
Willis @ What IS Willis Talking About?
Grazia @ Grazia’s SL.
Sian @ Parthenoid.

For the hardest part, coming up with 5 new interesting questions. Let’s see.

1. What does Second Life mean to you?

2. If you could do anything in SL and know you’d be successful, what would you do?

3. What is the best thing that ever happened to you thanks to SL?

4. What do you think we as a community could do to improve SL?

5. Your biggest SL fashion pet peeve? (Please illustrate with a picture of yourself doing it!)

A District Competition

No, I’m not referring to the districts of Panem. I’m talking about the Truth District. I just saw the other day that they were having a style competition on Flickr. Apparently it’s been going on all May, but distracted as I am, I didn’t know until just now. You have 3 days (until the 31st of May) to enter a picture (or five) with your styling of the Truth District brands. I hopped on over there to take a pic myself and I quite like how it turned out.

You won’t have any trouble finding items to style with, the place is jammed packed with some of the grids most talented designers. I went for this black ensemble with turquoise accessories. The top from Whippet & Buck seems made for the skirt from Ingenue. The lines at the front even line up perfectly. With the accessories bright color I think it still works great for summer, even if the clothing is dark.

I switched viewers today. I had to leave my beloved Exodus behind to go try out the new Phototools plugin for Firestorm. I’m kind of in love. It combines the best of the features from Exodus and ads a bunch more to play with. I think I’m going to stick with this for a while, I quite like how the pictures turned out.

Rockabilly Friday

Sometimes you stumble across an item of clothing that just inspires you to do something new and fun. I had that happen to me yesterday when I put on this new dress from coldLogic. They just released a bunch of clothing in a rockabilly type style and this dress looked familiar somehow. After a quick google search I understood why. So I thought, why not try and replicate that image? Fun!

The hardest part was trying to find a lollipop. I know, it doesn’t sound hard, but when I searched for one on MP I was overrun by… well, let’s just say they weren’t PG lollipops. So I vented my frustrations on plurk and Bouncer of Bounce This Poses came to the rescue. He gave me this lollipop and admitted to working on lollipop poses. Can’t wait to see those!

I found this chair at Magnifique Poses, but the pose didn’t accommodate my lollipop. Berry had recently written about a fix for that. Animare is a HUD that let’s you adjust existing poses. It’s helpful when you need to dig a hand out of your body or like in this case, need to hold a lolli. Worked out pretty well, I think.

52 Weeks of Color – #21 Lemon Chiffon

As my plurk friends have noticed, I’ve been in a terrible terrible mood today. You see, I’m trying to quit soda. And my soda of choice is Red Bull. So here I am kicking both a caffeine and a sugar habit. One that I’ve been nursing for 15 years.

So, trying to find something for this weeks color, Lemon Chiffon, was a crueler task than usual. I’m not particularly fond of yellow to begin with and with my mood in place, I was really hating on the color. I had a small tantrum about Marketplace. Why can’t we sort the search by color? Why is this feature not implemented yet? It can’t be that hard? And why, when I search yellow, do I get everything but yellow in my results?

Anyway, after I had cooled down I went to the one place I know has all the colors. Sn@tch. Doesn’t matter what hue you want, you will find something at that place. I found this cute dress that is technically gold, but it’s pale enough to double as Lemon Chiffon too. In the end it worked out rather well.

You can call me Alice

There’s been a lot of gaming in the house of Veenya lately. Of course the release of Diablo 3 was much at fault there. I spent way too much time playing Diablo 2 and have been waiting for the new one for over a decade. A DECADE!

It does not disappoint, I’m hooked. I may not spend as much time on this one as the first one, I simply don’t have that much time anymore, but it’ll be a nice break from reality every so often.

I also happened to gain access to the closed beta of The Secret World, which I am now thoroughly obsessed with. The game revolves around a shitload of real life conspiracy theories and features secret societies, zombies and ancient myths. It is as if it’s made for me.

The whole zombie thing inspired me to dress up a bit like my all time favorite Zombie Killer; Alice. I absolutely love the Resident Evil series, Milla Jovovich is one of my all time favorite actresses.

Don’t I look bad ass? For this very special task I had to find some special props. Like the poses and the gun from Bounce This. You get two guns and four poses in one pack and it seems made for blog posts like this.

Then I saw the release of these eyes from FATE Designs and once I again I thought the SL shopping Goddesses had been paying extra attention to me. They are mesh eyes, but not just that.

They are highly customizable, you control every little part of the eye with different textures, shine, glow and many many other features. As you can see you can treat each eye as a separate unit, creating this very tantalizing heterochromia effect.

52 Weeks of Color – #20 Deep Pink

Week 20 already. Before you know it, we’ll be half way through. Insane how fast it’s gone by. This week features Deep Pink. I’m not a fan of pink as I’ve said before, but I happen to have some lying around just the same. Also I bought a skirt at Culture Shock just for this occasion. I didn’t know which hue of pink was the right one, so I took a little bit of everything. I finished off with this hilarious suitcase from Avoid. It’s so cute I want to hug it!

Culture Shock

Due to my most unfortunate circumstance I was not able to go to Culture Shock at first dawn of the opening day. Probably for the best, the event seems immensely popular. But a few days ago I went around, picked up a gazillion demos, mulled over my choices and finally picked out a few pieces that just had to come home with me.

This doesn’t look like much of a Culture Shock, I know. But it’s every bit as awesome none the less. I chose this gorgeous mesh dress from Celoe to build my outfit around. The gathering at the cleavage is quite exquisite and gives it a bit more class than if it had just been a v-style one. My only gripe about this dress is that it’s not properly black. Maybe it’s meant to be gray, I don’t know, but I would’ve loved it even more had it been one shade darker.

52 Weeks of Color – #19 Pueblo

I hope you’ll excuse me while I play catch up with the colors. Week 19 gave us Pueblo. Another color I had some difficulty wrapping my eyes around. It’s a sort of brown with a sort of orange tint? So I did it my own little way, some orange and some brown. The sweater was an exclusive at an old TDR event, but you can find many other colors of it at the Fishy Strawberry mainstore, as well as a new exclusive color at the current TDR. I’m especially fond of the very low cut of this sweater, it’s very sexy.
